Growing Closer to Jesus This Easter

Easter |

“For God so loved the world, that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16

With Easter on the horizon, many of us remember this familiar passage. It may be one of the first verses we memorized. As humans, though, we can lose sight of the impact of God’s love. Easter provides the perfect opportunity to keep this truth fresh in our minds. So how can we grow closer to Jesus this Easter season?

Live a Christ-Like Life

Resurrection Sunday serve as an important reminder that we should strive to live a life like the one God gave the world. Dedicating your time through volunteering and serving those less fortunate than us is the perfect way to connect with Christ:

“He said also to the man who had invited him, ‘When you give a dinner or a banquet, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or rich neighbors, lest they also invite you in return and you be repaid. But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you. For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the just.’” (Luke 14:12-14).

To apply these words to your everyday life, try serving your community this Resurrection Sunday. Volunteer at a soup kitchen, local Veteran’s hospital, or nursing home, or host a gathering for the homeless. Practicing God’s love each day honors His sacrifice.

Connect With Family

Practicing worship through family can help strengthen your relationship with the Lord. Try a few Easter-oriented family activities:

  • Host a family Bible study. Ask your children what Easter means to them and why it matters that Jesus rose from the dead on Resurrection Sunday. Read John 20 as a family, and talk it through.
  • Hand each family member a piece of paper. Ask them to detail the ways they may have sinned. Share them with one another, then spend some time in prayer. After praying, burn the paper, remembering how Jesus died for your sins.
  • Encourage an open dialogue with your children. What’s the significance of the cross? Why is it important to maintain a loving relationship with God?

Worship and Spread the Word

Our busy schedules may keep us from regularly attending church. This season, make an effort to regularly attend worship. Inviting a friend or skeptic can be a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with and share in God’s love. Holidays often remind us of our loneliness, so offering the embrace of God’s love can be a solace for someone who hasn’t received God’s word. Extending your hand will also strengthen your personal relationship with Christ.

Easter is a perfect time to stop and hit “reset” on how we view our relationship with Christ. Our love of God grows over a lifetime and requires constant care. Follow these tips to accept God’s love this season and beyond.
